SOB!

November 28th, 2008 -- Posted in I AM NOT READY! | No Comments »

So, yesterday, after a fabulous dinner, while we were stuffed to the gills, and the girls were cleaning up, and I deboned the turkey, the pup asked if she could stay the night with Nana and Papa. I reminded her that Christmas Comes To Kenai starts today, with Santa arriving in the morning, and didn’t she want to see that? She paused, and then said “Nope. I wanna stay with Nana and Papa!”

…..

For 16 years now, every dayafterthanksgiving, I drag my weary behind out of bed early, bundle up the kids in snowpants and cold weather gear, then go stand in line to see Santa arrive on the FireTruck (back in MY day, it was a helicopter, but whatever.) SIXTEEN YEARS. The boy got ‘too old’ the girl decided sleep was better, and now… NOW…

I asked the pup if she were sure - and she said yup! She was too old for that anyway, but mostly because she wanted to stay with Nana and Papa.

WELL THEN.

Too old.
TOO OLD.

Harumph. At least I got to sleep in. That was nice. BUT STILL…

*sniffle*

Too old. My baby is ‘too old’ for Santa!

Sigh!

Sigh.

I woke up to this.
And happy cheers from the youngest.
She’s a weird, weird child.

If you need me.
I’ll be over here hibernating.
With my beloved sandals.
And cold toes.

Sigh.

Homecoming 2008

Oh. mah. gawd. ya’ll.

First there was the shopping. Then there was the primping. The emergency trip for nylons. The last minute attention to flowers. The primping.

THE BOY PUT ON COLOGNE, PEOPLE! AND brushed his hair. AND used gel. INORITE?! And don’t even gt me started on the girls…

Here’s my favorite picture of the bunch:

I know. Awww, right? I just like it. *L* But here’s the Boy and his date, MK, who also happens to be The Girl’s BFF.

HEY! Watch those eyes, boy! (HE says she tickled his back, that’s why he looked at her. We call bullshit! *L*)

The girl and one of my ‘other’ kids went together, because they didn’t have dates, so i made sure both girls had flowers too.

I know, I’m a total softy, but they thought it was cute. And out of all of the kids, only ONE would pose for me willingly. *L* But all in all, they looked ready to have a good time, so I sit here, at home, waiting for the call to pick them up and hear how it all went.

TWO.
TWO in high school.
TWO at the homecoming dance.
I’m so not old enough for this crap.

In other news - Auntie R was here for a couple of days, which made the kids (and me too!) giddy with glee. Every second spent with her is a complete joy, as you can tell by the smiles on their faces…

We’ll have to do it again soon!

ETA: Good time was had by all at Homecoming. They girls just got here (MKs dad picked them up) to gather their things, and I got a speed of light talk of how fun it was even though The Boy isn’t much of a dancer, but he did slow dance twice and they talked and she tried to help him fast dance, and he was just hopeless, and he kept escaping to talk to Z, because she kept trying to get him to dance since they were at a DANCE and all, but whatEVer… he always came back when she asked him too and yeah mom it was really fun and hurray! Oh - and?

MK: so there was this cop, and the boy was wonder what he’d do if I took his billy club, and I was like yeah right he’d steal it back and beat ya with it and you wouldn’t anyway because you’re a good boy and he was all I could and I told him no, because you listen to your mom and he was like ha! so I told him hey, I want to go home and be able to tell my mom that you’re not a delinquent so we can go out again so you will for me… and he was all that’s low, because you’re right. Isn’t that funny?!

Yes. Yes it is. *chuckles* She was ALL smiles, MK. The boy did good. Even if he wouldn’t dance much.

The girl had a good time too, but says next time? She’s getting a -real- date, so she, The boy and MK can double. *L*

ETA Again: The boys just got home - and first question? All hopeful like?
The Boy: So she was really all smiles? Really?

Yes, yes she really was. I told him I’d heard the story about the cop, and he chuckled and said yeah, yeah he’d behave so that he could ask her out again. Awwwwwwww. (someone shoot me now. *L*)

Making friends and influencing children…

The past few days I had the joy of spending time with my Nephew again as his grandma came back to the area for a few meetings and whatnot. This visit - there wasn’t even a blow up (he clearly remembered the important thing - Auntie Lessa Is Boss.) except for one with The Girl while I was at the store. I had it calmed down within 1.2 minutes of walking in the door though, much to the pup’s amazement. (Mom! You sure are good with kids! - said all innocent like, as if she hasn’t left me fit to be tied on multiple occasions herself!) We had a lot of fun, as he ran around, played, sang, and drug me to the couch or randomly crawled into my lap for cuddles.

I even made sure to start his training. Yup. Some things are important you see - like a shared love for all things Big Brother.

It helped that the endurance competition I was watching on the live feeds/writing about involved standing on airplanes that were rising and falling and bouncing about (the object was to stay balanced on the plane. last man standing won). He was enthralled with the planes and wanted one of his very own to play on. I’ll have to see what I can do - until then, I sent him home with some jumping frogs (tiddly-wink style) and cheeto breath. And the planted seed that will blossom into a reality tv addict, just like his Auntie.

MUHAHAHAH!
(grin)

In other news? I’M NOT READY!

OMG.

Oh. My. GAWD. ya’ll.

I’m freaking out, but not really freaking out, but KINDA FREAKING OUT HERE. But not really. Not like I could stop the progression of time, right? It was bound to happen, and I couldn’t be happier for him, but still OMG YA’LL!

And ya’ll are like “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WOMAN” aren’t ya? Yeah.

So, let’s have a MUSICAL INTERLUDE! See if you can infer what I’m currently NOT FREAKING OUT ABOUT AT ALL! Because it was BOUND to happen sooner or later. I can’t help it if my mama’s heart was still hoping for ‘later’…

Yeah. Time to check the expiration date on those condoms in the window, huh?

(Quickstats - she’s a co-worker, 18, 5′2″, curly hair, cute, bubbly, sweet and has liked him for MONTHS. Out of the blue, finally, with a little nudging from his BFF, he made a move. Clearly a move she’s been waiting for. and again. OMG YA’LL! And all this is kinda vague on purpose, since I didn’t exactly CLEAR this post with the kid. *L*)
