SYTYCD: Top 10!

So last night on SYTYCD, it’s the top 10, new partnerships, and the Judges are no longer handling the eliminations, it’s all about the votes of the people from here on out. We also go to see what happened to Jessica. Seems she broke two ribs and fractured another, and has been ordered by the doctors to not dance for four weeks. She’s pulls out, but is pleased that Comfort gets to take her place in the competition. Awww!

It’s a jam-packed evening of dance, as the girls pick their partners name out of a hat for two partner dances, and then each dancer will have a solo as well.

Speaking of – here’s all of the solos in one fell swoop.

Courtney and Joshua are paired off and had HipHop first – a bride of frankenstein piece that’s simply awesome. Lil C, Mary and Nigel agree, though think joshua stole the show, but Courtney managed to keep up. Her hair? Bangin!

Kherington and Mark are together this week, first with a country 2-step – a first for SYTYCD. Also a first, the choreographer looks about ready to pop that baby out if she turns too fast! I dunno, it seemed really careful and not at all as fun as it should have been. The judges think Kherington tended to take the lead, and well – I’ve seen Two-Steps that are AMAZING… and this just… wasn’t.

Comfort and Twitch are together and they get a toughy first, the Smooth Waltz. Twitch totally stole the show with that lift – it looked effortless! Comfort was a bit stiff, and it wasn’t as fluid as it could have been, but all in all it wasn’t bad. As Lil’ C said it was respectable, and Mary and Nigel slammed them pretty hard, Nigel said they weren’t Top 10 material.

Katee and Will are next – Yay! They pick Broadway and dance with a rowboat. ANYTHING is awesome when Will takes off his shirt. Hee! the routine is fun and upbeat and theatrical and they killed it!

Next up, Chelsie and Gev take on a contemporary routine. The mohawk’d Sonya is back to choreograph with them, and I kinda love her. Just sayin’. They kill it – I love the piece, and so did the judges – though they do tease Gev about thinking about Courtney while dancing. hahah!

Speaking of Courtney, she and Josh have the Rhumba next. And for those that didn’t watch “Shall we dance?” the Rhumba should be a Vertical expression of a Horizontal wish – can they pull it of? And the answer is a resounding YES. Yum!

Kherington take on Jazz next, and they’re supposed to showcase the style, vs. story this time around. It’s… better then the 2-step, but still a little just… there. They are energetic and it’s fun, but I think it could have been better.

Comfort and Twitch get Hiphop, and it’s ever bit as AMAZING as it should have been – AND Lil C finally gives us a definition of Buck – the intersection of internal artistry and physical expression, and that routine was certainly that.

Another new style – the pas de deux – for Katee and Will. And it’s visually STUNNING. Just… damn. There was one mistake that was seen, and it’s pointed out, but they’re glad it as there because they still have something to strive for in order to obtain perfection – not much more, but some. And that ending pose takes the breath away, every time.

Chelsie and Gev close us out with a jive, which Chelsie excells at, natch. Gev keeps up with her though, and that’s no easy feat! They commend him for being there as a partner for her, but she outdanced him for sure.

I think tonight Kherington is in trouble, and probably Comfort. On the guys side, I’m not so sure – Mark maybe, though I just don’t know. We’ll see tonight!
