Sense and Sensibility…

Posted by Lessa on July 17, 2006 in this-n-that |

I feel like writing but have no idea what I wanna write about so here I am again – shall we do it point by random point? OH! I know – I’ll steal Tense Teacher’s idea and do the Today in 5 senses. Yes. That’s what I’ll do. Here we go!

See: My kids actually cleaning up the front yard… the FIRST TIME I ASKED! Course, there’s still a couple things they missed, but they DID IT! without ARGUING WITH ME! and without KILLING EACH OTHER and WILLINGLY and the FIRST TIME!

I think I may die of shock. heh.

Also – seeing the new theme/style here. I think I get shocked everytime I open it and it’s not… darker. *L*

Hear: The whine of mosquitos! GAH. Stupid things are driving me INSANE. I’ve had them bite me TWICE this year on an EYELID. Not once, but TWICE and the SWELLING and the ITCHIN of said eye when that happens! It’s AWEFUL! They’re eating me ALIVE!

Touch: My ankle is doing much better, though it is still sore to the touch around the joint itself. And the pretty bruising is still there, but all in all it’s doing better. I’ve ditched the brace (and gotten yelled at by dad for it. *L*) and still taking it slow, but it is definitely on the mend. While I overdid it in Anchorage, I actually think it helped strengthen it faster because I was forced to walk on it and keep those tendons and ligaments in motion. Anyway – on the mend. Yay!

Smell: My sons stinky feet. O. M. G. boys are icky. *L* While we were up at the AllStar Tourney, he was scared to take off his shoes because the ControlFreakDrillSargent was always griping about scents that were driving her nuts and kept making the girls reapply their deoderant and the boy was terrified to take off his shoes.

So when he did he put on our tropical fruit smelling sunblock. It was RANCID when combined with his stanky boy sweaty feet and OH MY LORD I thought I was gonna die.

Course – i think she was a little scared of the boy and how big he is – she didn’t say a WORD. Maybe she was scared he’d…. touch her with em. EEEEEEEEW!

(for the record? he comes by it natural. Heh.)

Taste: Ooooooooooh Grilled Salmon and Moose Burgers and deviled eggs and a fabulous corn salad and strawberry pie and chocolate cake… and lord knows what all else (there were some kabobs and chips n salsa and other things too!) oooooooohWEE does my sister know how to put on a bar-b-que! Tonight was the goodbye feast for the group working on the Habitat for Humanity house next door to my sisters, and so everyone gathered to wish them well, and partake of my sister’s good cooken. I’m STUFFED. STUFFED I say.

Then we came home and watched the shrinking woman go through surgury to get rid of all her excess skin after losing 400 pounds….. and I feel a vague need to exercise. but I’m too full. Fuckit. *L*

So there ya have it. My Sense-ational day.

Home again…

Posted by Lessa on July 15, 2006 in family, this-n-that |

Allstars_026So – we’ve been home for a few hours now – I’m exhausted, but I wanted to get this post up and written and stuff so I could curl up and relax. heh. [yes, that will likely include a nap. *L*]

[ok – so I lied, I wrote half, went to bed, and now, the next day, am finally finishing writing it. heh.]

So! We met all the girls at 11am in the morning, made sure everyone was there, and accounted for, and had directions to the ball fields, before we took off, and the beginning of my reputation was built – apparently, I’m the only parent with a lead foot. *sheepish grin* I’m blaming it on the aircast I have to wear due to my poor sprained ankle. Yup. That’s the ticket!

Allstars_024_openingceremonies Anyway – we made it to Knik in record time, naturally, and despite my quick detour to see where the landfill was (so I took a wrong turn! shh!), I was the first to arrive to the Knik Fields. The girls painted our windows on the cars, got their jackets and visors (The girl’s name spelled correctly on the visor, not so on the jacket. *L*) and we headed to opening ceremonies. They announced all the girls by name, number and team, and it was nicely done.

[ya’ll might wanna grab a cuppa coffee – this one’s a LONG one. *grin*]

And as such, we are OUT OF TOWN for the next 3-8 days! I will attempt to post a picture or two through my phone to let ya’ll know how she’s doing. I won’t have actual internet access at all for the duration (unless some poor soul finds me a cyber cafe and shows pity and pays for an hour or so for me to get my fix. *L*) so there will be no actual posts, and I won’t get to see comments or the like either. (GAH!!!) I can however get text email on said phone  [ onthego (at) reachthecolors (dot) com ] and those that have my AIM, the messages will be forwarded to my phone as well.

So there ya go – we’re OFF! (…well I’m always ‘off’ but now we’re leaving too. hee!). Wish us luck!

Mia (KristyK’s daughter) Needs our help!

Posted by Lessa on July 10, 2006 in this-n-that |

ChipIn: National Junior Olympics

Mia qualified to compete in the National Junior Olympics in the 1500m and 3000m races this weekend and has been working really really hard to get there! They’re having a fundraiser to help raise money for her traveling expenses – any little bit can help! Click the link above, and it will take you to the ChipIn site, and you can read more about it here at Kristy’s too. Mia’s a great girl! it’d be fantastic to see her get this opportunity! So if you can help, even with a couple bucks, it’d be MUCH appreciated!

*POP* goes the….

….ankle!

Yup. but fortunately, I still hold the title of the only one in our famiy to have *NOT* broken a bone. Yet. Heh.

Last night I stepped over something that I’d repeatedly told the kids to put away, only to step ON a can of greenbeans laying on it’s side that I’d repeatedly told the kids to put away as well, and WHOOSH left foot went out from under me, gravity took hold, and all of my bad an’ big assed self landed on my right ankle with a *LOVELY* popping noise and a WHOLE buncha pain.

I laid there and cursed and cursed and laid there and cursed and then inched my way up to do what I was going to do in the first place – turn off the stove, cuz dinner was done.

So – It swelled and hurt and I iced and elevated and it hurt and I whimpered a bit and it hurt and I couldn’t sleep until about 4 minutes before the phone rang with Nana Moosie calling so i could wake up the pup to go to church with her, and of course they checked on the ankle.

Then Nana Moosie picked up the pup and Papa Moosie checked out the ankle and I decided I’d better have it looked at just in case, because helLO I have to drive to Knik (wtfeverthatis – ok, it’s in eagle river somewhere, but yes anyway) on Tuesday for allstars and I kinda need my right foot to do that and if I can’t then Papa Moosie might have to and the girl was already feeling all guilty and worried cuz of the whole not picking up the can thing and….

So off to the ER we went, where we entertained the nurses with our normal banter, and the doctor thought I was my mother (How ya doing, B? fine, but I’m not B…) and I got happy drugs and they took xrays and it’s a bad sprain with torn ligaments BUT if I don’t take happy drugs on Tuesday I can still make the trip to Allstars so HURRAY!

And I think I typed that whole thing in one breath just like I woulda said it cuz the happy drugs are all nicely kicked in and I haven’t slept and so now! now I am going to lay down and put my foot up and pretend to watch tv while really taking a nap.

Good times. Heh.
