Dorian Gray

Posted by Lessa on January 7, 2004 in this-n-that |

Having just read the Picture of Dorian Gray recently, finally (yes, I know TBF, my education is woefully inept.) and afterwards watching the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (which I enjoyed greatly. :P~~ to the critics.), I really couldn’t resist this picture when I saw it:

That let to some playing around which resulted in this:

Which of course led to further playing around, which got us this (oh what do you expect, I am a design student!) (click for full size):

That is all. *grin*

Snow and Ornaments

So I Thought I’d give you a little hint of what REAL snow looked like….. the foreground is packed down a bit because that’s where the dogrun is, but look at our poor pitiful bus….

Nice hm? Heh. Then, we took our tree down…

And I realized that whoops – we forgot one. I sent the boy out with the camera, said “take a picture of the tree, then a close up of the ornament….” and didn’t give him hints on composition or anything, just let him loose. Seems I have two photographers in the family – this is what he brought me back….

Nice hm? *proud mommy beam* Eventually, someday… it’ll be Lessa and Co. take the photography and designing world by storm…. Look out world – there ain’t no stopping this clan. *grin*

(So I’m smug. Grades came in for last quarter. Another perfect 4.0 quarter – still at a near perfect 3.99 overall. *g*)

PSSSSSSSSSST…..

Thus begins…

…the first day of the rest of your life.

Or something like that. *chuckles* Dunno, feeling all mood swingy the past couple of days, though its not necessarily a bad way I don’t think, just all weepish at odd times. I’m blaming it on the sister and her pregnacy. Yeah. Sympathy pangs or something. *chuckles* Not that time of the month – or well, shouldn’t be just yet, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything around here anymore. *L*

Bah. Whatever. I’ve always been weepish. hehehe.

So all around the blogging world you’ve got people who are making resolutions and swearing to keep them, some who swear they will NOT make them as it’s a means of setting one up for instant failure, others who sidestep with a list of goals, and still more like Ren who have two hundred and freaking four of them.

Damn. Thats a lotta pressure.

I’ve made them myself in past years, and made them public, and then failed miserably in a very public forum and retreated into my own self defeatist ball because of it. So this year, lets just say that I’ve got some goals, I’m going to do my best to keep up with them and I’m not – I repeat NOT – going to make them public because that certainly sets myself up for failure. It’s a personal thing, I guess, and I certainly admire the balls of those who have posted theirs. More power to ya!

So. My sister woke up to PUPPIES! to start her new year. Gonna take the kids over later on and let them take a peek at them. 8 of them, 6 boys and 2 girls… Congrats, Bugs! Too bad they won’t get the “first baby of the new year” kit and kaboodle that the first human baby of the year gets. Though she was talking about calling up and trying *L*

My sister got the Girl a very special christmas gift this year. It;s a book and diary set called “Taking care of you” which should be and could be named “what every girl should know before hitting puberty” There’s a LOT of info here, and she’s been quite happily flipping through the book. There’s things like how to choose the right bra, how to know when your breasts are no longer baby fat but real growing boobies, even goes through tampons with how-to pictures.

I gotta say, I’ve done my best with ALL my kids to be open and honest and make sure they know they can ask me anything. You never know if you’ve done a good job of that until there’s something like this. I now know i’ve done a good job of that, because from across the room, the girl says “hey mom! look, this diary has a place to keep track of when I start and end my period!” Pretty cool, says I, and look it over with her. And we went over the diagrams for tampons and explained a bit more, as well as the ‘are they really growing’ section about breasts. She came to me willingly and honestly. Asked if I shaved under my arms, and upon finding I did says “OH! so those razers in there are YOURS not dads!” and we laughed. So I think I’m doing ok with the girl.. she seems real open to discussion and I know that will only serve us well when *gasp* it’s time to move on to sexuality and birth control and the like.

The boy, too, has always been able to ask me questions, though understandably he goes for the male point of view first. I have always told him, however, that I’m always on his side and that he can trust me with anything. I think he does. As long as his dad isn’t around and he doesn’t have to act all mainly and shit, of course.

And the pup – well, she has absolutely no shame. *L*

Anyway… I think I’m gonna quit rambling here now. Watching Sinbad with the kids again, and then I think I’m gonna watch Pirates of the Carabian again. What a fabulous movie! It was all it was hyped up to be and depp really OWNED that role, didn’t he? Too freaking cool.

Hope you all are having a nice relaxing New Years day and aren’t too hungover *grin*

Happy New Year!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy new year!

Me? I’m just sitting at home and watching the ball drop with the kids and doing a bit of redecorating. Dunno if I can handle so much excitement. *chuckles*

Be safe ya’ll.
