Survivor: the Monday After…
Alrighty – first of all, did you SEE Mr. Dimples last night at the Emmys? I mean sure, I tuned in to watch Neil Patrick Harris like the rest of the sane world (and how AWESOME was the Dr. Horrible segment? And the whole milking his supporting actor emmy loss for laughs? (he was ROBBED, ROBBED I say!) – but added bonus was the best Reality Host award for Jeff Probst.
Sigh. Let’s just bask in the glow of his Tuxedo’d Glory a moment, alright? Oh yeah, baby.
Ok – Back to Survivor, where Jeff wears his shorts and blue shirts and still looks good! Over at Reality Blurred, Andy was on the actual set of Samoa when they filmed the first episode, and has some cool little insider facts for us – such as:
* Both tribes had to vote twice for leader because they tied the first time. The first time on Galu, Shambo and Russell tied with four votes each, and Erik got two. On Foa Foa, Mick and Jaison each got three votes, with Mike, Marisa, Liz, and Russell H. each getting one. The editing merged the two votes.
* One of the Foa Foa boats flipped as they got close to shore, which is why some of them are soaking wet.
* Jeff had the two leaders write down their selections for challenge roles before announcing them, so they couldn’t change their minds or get some kind of visual cues from their tribe members.
* We helped rehearse the challenge that was in the preview for next week. Called Schmergen Brawl, it’s a violent fight in the dirt that Jeff Probst will actually throw someone out of, a Survivor first.

The Biggest Loser Premiere!

While I was enjoying the Big Brother Finale and aftermath, another guilty pleasure premiered – and I didn’t even have my pizza to eat while watching it! Harumph! (what? 🙂 )
We have 16 competitors this Season, and by now I’m sure you know who went home – since it’s on the banner. Here’s how it all went down…
The 16 players faced surprises right off the bat though, as they thought they were headed to the Ranch to meet Bob and Jillian, but are dropped off at the beach with Ali instead – BTW – Ali looks FANTASTIC after having her baby – and facing their first challenge. They were at the sight of the Marathon that last years contestants ran at the end of the season, and were told that they were to race the last mile. The winner would get immunity for themselves, and their teammate, who they would get to choose.
The Pup's New Toy.
…hold me.
She’s bouncing off the walls of course.
Pup: LOOK! Here’s how to put it together. Grab this, put it here.
Me: wow. Detailed. How long did that take you to learn?
Pup: twenty minutes! (she’s kidding, of course)
Pup: Wanna know how to mouth it?
Me: You already know how to be mouthy.
Pup: MOM! It’s easy. You make a fart noise. The boys caught on REAL fast.
Me: of course they did.
Pup: LISTEN!
Me: WHAT? I CANT HEAR ANYMORE ON ACCOUNT OF THE LOUD TRUMPET NOISE!
…is this what they meant by the coming of the Apocalypse being heralded by a trumpet?
Pup: I GOT SPIT ON MY LEG! GROSS.
Pup: When I went over to play for Grandpa? He covered the end of my Trumpet! He was playing with me but (fake cries) it made me so SAD (giggles)
Me: don’t they have silencers or something?
PUP: MOOOOOOOOOOOM. Hey! Mom! Don’t you dare put that on Parenting Teens! OMG you ARE putting it on the INTERNETS! I’ll be FAMOUS! I mean..HEY! I’m not a Teen!
Me: This is in case I don’t let you live long enough to OFFICIALLY count as a teen. For instance, if you blow that thing in my ear one more time…
…help me.
Here it is! The Survivor Premiere!
And you KNOW we’re having a watch party! As always, you can watch along with me here!
The Birds and the Bees…
One of my favorite shirts – and my kids favorite too – depicts a bird and a bee whispering, with the caption above their head saying “We do WHAT?!” It never fails to make my kids giggle, and I get a lot of snickering looks from folks when I parade it around town.
Because, you know, I’m really 12. Or something.
Anyway – I’m sure you’ve noticed that pretty little button there over to the side, the one about My First Period Kit – which you can now buy through that link right there. We featured the kit before, and while it gave Peppermist and myself a snarky giggling fit like you wouldn’t believe, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get one for the Pup and possibly my Niece too. Now I’ve never been shy about laying it all out there for my kids – but Dr. de Freitas helps those who are a little less open than us, talking in a frank and open way that makes it easy to open those discussions with your girls.
And boys – especially with her new guide for parents – The Birds and the Bees with Ease. In fact, HealthyChats.com is offering a free 40-page Ebook to parents! Dr Chrystal de Freitas based the book on her mother-daughter seminars. She (and I!) feel that by the time those hormones kick in for puberty, the kids should already have the basics down, but a lot of moms at her seminars have never quite brought it up.
Here’s the official Blurb!
“The Birds and the Bees with Ease!” covers which details are appropriate to relate to a child at what age, starting at 5 years old, moving up to ages 6 through 9. The information is also useful for parents who have not yet discussed these topics with children at the cusp of puberty. “When we start the conversation at the appropriate age of 5 or 6, we can leave out all the details of dangers and pleasures associated with sex,” explains Dr. de Freitas. “This is not too early because if we parents don’t initiate this conversation, others – like the kid next door or the media – will do it for us. As our children grow, we can continue to add on more information before they get to their health education class at school. Explaining to children how their amazing bodies work empowers them and keeps them safe. This knowledge is all part of the journey to healthy, responsible adulthood.”
The e-book’s clear-cut chapters tackle topics including: Where Do Babies Come From? and How Do they Get Out?; How are Babies Made?; Sexual Curiosity; Modesty; Touching/Exploring; Foul Language; HIV and AIDS; Puberty; and other vital discussion areas to enable parents to easily have healthy chats with their children.
So head over to Healthy Chats’ The Birds and the Bees with Ease page and download your copy of the Free E-book, today! Don’t forget to check out the other features of the site too – such as Dr. de Freitas’ blog, Q and As for Moms and Pre-Teen girls, and other information for parents and kids alike!
And, like I preach continuously around here – TALK TO YOUR KIDS!
…and provide condoms. Just in case. 🙂
