SYTYCD-S6-WK1

The first ever Fall Season of So You Think you can Dance, of course! YAY! If you missed this week’s first round of auditions, we saw some familiar faces, some new faces, the good, the bad, the ugly – AND a Tap Trade Between Evan’s brother Ryan Kasprzak and Bianca Revel – it was HOT. My Peppermist just started tap lessons this week, and was thrilled to see them battling it out like that!

It was AWESOME.

For a taste of what you may have missed? Here’s Ryan’s audition – it prompted Adam to tell him “You’re not a dancer, you’re a freakin’ Artist!” Enjoy!

(link to tap trade removed until I find another clip of it!)

Project Runway: Thank God for Silver Pants!

Posted by Lessa on September 12, 2009 in Project Runway with Comments closed |

week4designsIt’s week four of Project Runway’s season 6 – on Lifetime, dontcha know – and this week it’s all about making 13 women very happy. “Easy, Right” quipped Heidi, as if she didn’t know it was night impossible to do that AND prove you’re a good designer all at the same time. Turns out the clients were the models, and they needed a look to wear to an industry party, where they might get jobs – REAL jobs, not PR contests where their designer can make or break them.

wk4SmurfMany of the designers were confident -which is a recipe for disaster. Others just couldn’t seem eye-to-eye with their models, like Qristyl, because her model doesn’t want color. Epperson’s model wants orange, but he can’t find one he likes, so chooses brown instead. Could be disaster… or could it be fate? The designers get catty towards one another – in private, of course, because they don’t want the others to know they’re badmouthing them. They hate two of the best garments in there – Epperson’s and Althea’s. Logan refers to the color of his dress as “Smurf Prom” and Tim doesn’t disagree.

PR Lesson number one, Johnny: ALWAYS LISTEN TO TIM GUNN! 6 seasons and these people don’t know that? If he doesn’t like it, scrap it and start the heck over!

wk4judgesAnyway – we’ve a new batch of judges, as Michael Kors isn’t there, nor is Nina. Marc Bouwere and Zoe Glassner take their place, along with guest judge Jennifer Rade, who’s a costume designer. Oh goody.

Then comes the CatWalk:

Qristyl – a boring black sheath dress.
Nicolas – White satin with gray woven neck – the overall look is STUNNNING
Irina – Print dress with a belted Jacket that’s ok.
Gordana – short dress with woven insert in the middle – love the detail.
Shirin – A blue dress.
Logan – Smurf. Prom. Not good.
Christopher – Bright green dress, which is ok.
Epperson – stretchy brown shredded crisscross dress that hugs the model like a second skin. I’d wear it – if I had that figure.
Johnny – purple satin that’s just… well, bridesmaid!
Althea – three piece suit that I thought looked a mess, but everyone else loved. Including Tim. What do I know?
Louise – black ruffled neck dress.
Ra’mon – blue strapless with a flower that was bigger than the model’s head. 1988 called…
Carol Hannah – purple twisted one-shoulder, with black skirt.

So Althea, Epperson and Carol Hannah were in the top, with Althea’s three piece number coming out on top, though I would have gone with Epperson, myself. Johnny, Qristyl and Logan are in the bottom, and Qristyl gets the boot for playing it too safe. Logan and his silver pants (which the judges loved) was saved for another week – barely.

What kind of horrendous fashion are we in for next week? Stay tuned!

Hey Josh, and Coupons!

[Psst – have you entered the sweepstakes today? What are you waiting for? It’s right over there! ———>]

headerribbon-1-4A couple goodies for you today!

First off, thanks to my BFF in California and the Bakersfield Californian, today’s PSA is all about the Coupon Cutting at Save At Home Mommy!

Now, a lot of these coupons don’t work for me, being as I live in Alaska and we don’t have the same stores – but a lot of them do, too – and when you’re feeding a gazillion teenagers and their friends, you know it’s all about pinching those pennies until it HURTS. Kerri Scarlett understands, and delivers daily deals and coupons to print out – and even recipes to go with some of the sales she discovers! Today, for instance, London Broil is on sale at Albertsons for $1.79/lb – and she includes several ideas of what to do with the meat to help it stretch farther, as well as links to some recipes to help get you started.

There’s also Frugal Finds Friday – where everyone helps finding exciting deals across the country – so be sure to check it out! That extra buck or two you save could mean an extra Diet Coke for Mom! 🙂

Even better? Free Chocolate Friday. INORITE?

So check out saveathomemommy.com today!

Next up, it’s Hey Josh!

I’ve featured him a couple times before, and the link to his site is right down there on the sidebar too – Josh Shipp is funny, engaging, and “In your face, but on your side!” With his snark and fun and honest take on honest problems – including unsolicited advice to the Australian Girl who got lost in a storm drain and instead of using her cell phone to call for help – used it to update her Face Book Status with a call for help.

Yeah. I know.

ANYWAY! Josh has a couple new exciting projects – one is a weekly advice show on youtube. Every Wednesday, Josh answers emails and gives some honest and real helpful hints on how to deal with everyday trials our teens face. And he has the Owl of Wisdom. Who doesn’t love an Owl of Wisdom?!!? Here’s the most recent show…

Josh has another project coming up too – a television show called “Jump Shipp” where it’s not all about his dating life, which was my first thought because I’m really 12, but about helping those who want to leave the job they hate and jump ship to a career they find rewarding and fun. It’s going to be on the Halogen network, and you can read more about it here!

OfficialBabysitting-main_FullWhen I was a young mother..

(You know, yesterday.)
(Stop laughing.)

.. of just two – back before the Pup joined us and made our life infinitely more complicated and hectic and also, ya know, perfectly complete – We still went out on a regular basis. We did the things that other parents did, searching for JUST THE RIGHT baby sitter, so that we could go and dance (and drink) and have fun while assured our kids were lovingly taken care of back at home. We used Nana and Papa mostly, but sometimes even they wanted a break from my perfect children.

(…snort. Perfect children. You can laugh there. Really. It’s ok.)

After a lot of searching, we finally found her. She was dating the brother in law of my Manager at KFC at the time. Her name is Nicole, but The Boy called her Nickel from day one, which we all found completely adorable. Except for maybe, Nicole, but ya know blond haired blue eyed little boys get away with an AWFUL LOT! Nickel was young when she started babysitting for us, just 13 or so, but she had a calm presence and a cool head that made it easy to trust her. (That and 15 emergency phone numbers and regular check in calls, but whatever.) She helped potty train the boy, she adored Peppermist and played endless hours of power rangers and barbies, and watched that damn whale movie 18 gazillion times because the Boy was obsessed with Free Willy. (While he was potty training. Coincidence?)

We added the third baby, though we no longer were the wild party animals we once were, and didn’t need the babysitting still. The kids grew, and Nickel grew up (though never grew, she’s a wee tiny thing!) and soon my kids were taller than she is, and she pouted whenever she saw them – seeing the boy drive makes her heart hurt – about as much as realizing he’s twice as tall as she is now, too! She went on to do the normal things – went to school, became a teacher (She got her own classroom this year at the elementary school our kids go to – our poor kids had to learn to say “Mrs. C” instead of “Aunt Nicky”). She always remained close, keeping in touch with my sister and myself, and then she found “the” guy, got married and…

…had a baby.

Now you see where this is going – and how it comes full circle. The other day Peppermist came home all happy and giddy, because she got a new Babysitting job – for Aunt Nicky.

Sometimes living in a small town is TOTALLY worth it.

The Amazing Race: Season 15!

photobooth_strips

It’s back! Another guilty pleasure – who didn’t love last season?! This one Phil says has the “best cast yet” in his opinion, and he’s usually on point, right? It premieres with a 2 hour show on September 27!

(OH I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR! 🙂 )

Here’s what CBS has to say:

Contestants will travel one of the fastest courses ever assembled on the Race – spanning eight countries in just 21 days. Season 15 also features the quickest elimination in the history of the series, sending one Team home before they leave the starting line. Teams fortunate enough to avoid the surprise elimination and compete for the $ 1 million prize will face the “Switchback,” which sends Teams back to the site of one of the series’ most infamous Roadblocks, as well as a surprise appearance by one of America’s most beloved entertainers, a visit to the world’s tallest building and a spicy twist on a Japanese game show.

“This season we wanted to keep the Racers and our fans on their toes and make sure no one gets too comfortable,” stated Bertram van Munster, Executive Producer and Co-Creator of THE AMAZING RACE. “We’re adding some new surprise elements including our quickest elimination ever as well as revisiting one of the most challenging Roadblocks our Teams have ever encountered during our past 15 seasons.”

Sounds like fun to me!

Let’s meet the cast!
