LMK Sweepstakes!
A while back I talked a bit about the Girl Scouts LMK site that helps teach teens and tweens online safety with a fun interactive site. With a parents section and Teen section, the LMK (let me know) life online is a valuable resource for all our teenage girls. They even have teenagers writing as contributing editors to the newsletter!
Recently – while we were in upheaval land – Julie send me a note letting me know about the LMK sweepstakes and I wanted to make sure to get you guys the details before the sweepstakes ended on September 7th… why?
Because you have the chance to win a new computer!
It’s as simple as filling out the form – so what are you waiting for? Go sign up today! While you’re there -don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter too, so that you can keep that one, all-important, step ahead of your kids!
Thanks for the tip, Julie!
Boys and their toys…
You know what they say – boys never grow up. They just get bigger toys.
Today I have a very happy boy! You see, a few months ago, I had the chance for a new/used jeep, and the boy helped me buy it by taking the old jeep off my hands. He didn’t want the old jeep, but was content to have it there (should he ever get his license!) and ready for when he wanted it.
But it wasn’t what he wanted. Not really.
I thought he was lookin for something similar to his friends – we have two el caminos, a charger, a van and an old hand me down cadilac that all find their way to be parked in my driveway now and again. So I was thinking – a nice (probably muscle) car.
The Boy was thinking something different. He was thinking he needs a TRUCK.
He had his heart set on one, and he spent all summer looking while he worked steadily to make sure he had enough money. Then, this past week, one of his co-workers made an offer on the jeep, and he sold it for the same exact price he’d bought it from me, and then he turned right around today, and bought his hearts desire.
Meet The Beast.

It’s a 1972 Chevy 4×4. The floorboard is crumbled by the drivers side door, but the heater works. The back tail lights need to be rewired, but it starts every single time. There is a transmission fluid leak, but that’s a simple fix. There’s some other wiring work that needs done, but there’s the shine in his eyes as he laid down on the hood and patted it… and – I kid you not – whispered… “My BABY.”
Needless to say, he’s wanting to hit the DMV tomorrow, get the title/registration taken care of and into my name, get it on the insurance…
…and make the appointment to take his driver’s test.
I’m DOOMED.
Sigh. It’s true. The ONLY difference between men and boys is the size of their toys… is it too late to go back to Tonka trucks??
The unthinkable!
While we were in the process of getting the mirror site set up here at our new home, and I moved our entries, and prettied up the site and started getting PTB up on it’s own two feet again… My daughter did the unthinkable on August 4th.
She turned 15.
I’m sure you understand when I tell you that this? is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! It’s every bit as unacceptable as the fact that my oldest is about to start school as a SENIOR in High School! I’m not sure how they got to be so old when I’m still 16, but I suppose it happens.
Peppermist’s birthday was a lowkey affair, with a promise to get her a gift when she decides what the heck she wants. She had her besties over – The Twins and the Two Ms – and they lounged in her newly cleaned room (The Twins and Peppermist had spent 3 days cleaning and even cleaned the carpets!) chatted, munched on junk food, and giggled.
There was LOTS of Giggling.
A party at Auntie’s house, complete with cake, extra icing and popcorn that ended up with a massive food fight with Auntie at the help and me and Nana staying well out of the way, and – made the day extra special, and homey. It just goes to show that all the expensive gifts in the world aren’t what makes a birthday fun – it’s time with family and friends…
…and Rockband. π
Richard Hatch won't be back!
…of course, we didn’t even know that it was a possibility, until now…
The show is filming, or soon to wrap up Survivor: Samoa, the 19th season of the show, and thanks to Jeff Probst, we know that Season 20 will be filmed right afterward, and the casting director mentioned that the casting for 19/20 was being done simultaneously. They’re doing them both in a row to save on production costs. This means that Survivor 20 will be in Samoa as well… filming between August 1 and September 20.
The last time that happened? Allstars, baby, in the Pearl Islands.
So – is this going to be another allstars? All signs point to yes – and the “secret twist” has already been revealed. This time, it’s Heroes vs. Villians – confirmed by a cast member that wasn’t asked to return.
Someone else who won’t be returning? Richard Hatch, though he was invited. The email confirming the Heroes vs. Villians allstars was revealed as part of Hatche’s petition to be released from his halfway house stint early so that he could go on the show. His big argument was that going on the show would stand in for his needing a job now, and enable him to pay the 2000 and 2001 taxes he owes – for not paying taxes after winning the first season. *Snerk* Irony at it’s best.
Of course, that email was supposed to be kept quiet, in order to keep the twist a secret, but the request was denied, as everyone and their brother is talking about it.
Coby Archa, from Palau, is spoiling everything he can get his hands on at the Survivor Suck board, though he didn’t spoil the cast other than to say that “most of it irritates the shit out of me” but mostly just because he was jealous.
Coby suggested around 35 went to LA for interviews, and of that 10 hadn’t been on the show twice (Their season/Allstars.)
So what do you think? Ready for another Allstars season? Will it be better than the Fans vs. Faves that didn’t really get good until the second half? Who do YOU want to see return for a second (…or third…) stint on the show – hero or villain? My only request is – no Fairplay. He had his chance. No more Fairplay.
Sound off – and let me know what you think!
It's official.

We received notice this morning that 451Press IS officially shut down, and they won’t be giving us the option for our domain names, either. I guess it’s a darn good thing I’d already spent yesterday setting up this one for us, hm?
It’s going to take some time getting things up and running, but I’ve a wealth of stories about my teenagers to continue to share with you – from birthdays to back to school, to general fun stuff, and all manor of things Teenager. I do hope that those who had PSA’s to share with us will find us still and also that you all will continue to participate via comment and email.
After all – raising teenagers is FUN, right?
Right? Hello? π
