Week Two Roundup!

WHEW! Things are movin right along, and we’re already into week three! If you missed any of the action last week – here’s a lil taste of the torture we inflicted upon our houseguests! (What? They like it!)

You see, my lovely co-host, Michelle, back at another game in another place was ousted (by ME! hee!) in week two. Then, in another game in another place, I smashed her wee lil piggy bank all to pieces. (But I glued him back together!)

So Week Two of the Big Brother Experience? Was all about Chelle’s Revenge!

In a rapidfire Elimiguest HOH challenge, Jake came out on top, and took over the HOH room. With delight, he nominated who his biggest threats, Wolf and John. Then all hell broke lose! You see, some folks figure they should get rid of inactives first, and let those who wanna play PLAY. Others think hello – let’s not waste an hoh, let’s take out a threat! The two sides squared off… lines were DEFINITELY drawn in the sand!

In the food comp, it was to be Famine or Feast as they searched for the Keys to their Kingdom. When only half of the houseguests showed, and the ones that were there worked their tails off, an executive decision was made and those who competed were rewarded and allowed to keep their PMs.

In the POV – Mig the Pig returned for his revenge, and executed many helpless Precious Moments figurines in the course of the competition. John came out on top once again, winning his second POV in a row! No dummy, he removed himself from the block, at which time Jake nominated Nelson in his place.

Oh but Chelle wasn’t done yet! Oh NO! You see, Easter was coming soon, and we knew it was time to have an Admin Easter Party! YAY! In our Surprise Easter Egg Hunt, four eggs were found – one of which was a Gold Egg, which was useable only in the WK 2 Eviction. John found it, and saved his buddy Wolf from the block, causing Jake to have an brief breakdown as he was forced to nominate yet ANOTHER houseguest for eviction. Chris was placed on the block, and in a rapidfire vote, the houseguests voted Nelson out of the house.

Whew. Are you tired? Cuz WE sure are! What a week! Chelle is feeling slightly vindicated now, but that’s not the last we’ll see of her evil ways, I’m sure!

We start off this week with a Chicken or the Egg trivia – and outa nowhere, Florian has won Head of Household! What is in store for the houseguests this week, with the Britt in charge? Time will tell!

Join us in the forums and follow along! Trust me, you don’t wanna miss this week’s happenings either!

Time

Time is a weird thing. I often find myself wishing that I’d taken more time to record every little detail, every minute of every day that we had together, that the kids and I spend together now. It’d be so much easier to remember if I had reams and reams of papers and stacks of disks and pictures and videos that remembered it all…

…but instead, there are glimpses here and there, and even then I’m not quite sure when/if I remember it right. It creates a sense of loss that is a dull ache somewhere under my ribs, as if there’s a pocket there filled with regret.

April 10th would have been our 16 year anniversary. March 14th would have been his 37th birthday. These dates were at the forefront of my memory right up until the day in question – then I completely forgot. Then I remembered and felt bad. Then I got angry, because no one else remembered either, though mostly I was angry at myself – because who forgets that? How is it I could stare at the date and wonder why it was important to me? Then kick myself because it IS important, but for some reason I was hiding it from myself, just as I had been hiding from everyone else.

You can’t see me if I cover my eyes, after all.

The simple fact is – I miss him, and it hurts. I “forget” because it’s easier than remembering that I’m alone, raising his kids, his AMAZING kids, who he’d be so proud of. It’s easier than remembering how long it’s been, and how much I’m still hiding from the rest of the world.

I “forget” the little things, because remembering hurts too damn bad.

Happy Anniversary, Kevin.
I haven’t forgotten… anything.

The best call…

brit** I get a lot of text messages and phone calls from my kids, and also “my” kids. They text or call to check in, or just to say hi, they call for rides and pickups and to let me know where they are, and they call when they need money.

Not all of them, but the ones I gave birth too, and a couple of others, often call when they have need. They understand when I have to say no, and they also when I can only spare five bucks. They never ask for massive amounts, and more often than not, they’ll simply come over and raid my fridge and pantry when they needs something. I’m perfectly ok with that – as that’s part of my job as a mom – be supportive, as well as make them fend for themselves as needed.

Yesterday though, the request for money also held a distinct level of pride attached to it.

I’ve mentioned B before – she’s the girl who stayed with us for a while before her 18th birthday, because she’d gotten kicked out of her grandmother’s house. B is fiercely independent and while she occasionally makes decisions I simply cannot stand behind, I’m proud to call her one of “my” kids.

She dropped out of her senior year in high school, knowing she wouldn’t have the credits even if she stayed in to graduate with her class. She and I have gone back and forth about what she should do, but I always left the ball in her court. She is 18, she can make the decision. She knows I want her to have a diploma or GED, and that I’ll do what I can to help her obtain it.

For a while, B attended the alternate high school, and made plans to be able to walk with her class. It didn’t work out, and she couldn’t quite get it together. Then, yesterday, I got the call.

“Mom! Can I borrow $25? Wait! Before you answer, ask me what it’s for – go on! Ask me!”

So I did. Turns out she needed $25 to pay to take the test in order to get her GED. I haven’t heard yet how she did, but that’s one check I certainly didn’t mind writing!

Congrats, B, on taking the initiative and taking the test. Here’s to good results! I’m so proud of you!

**Her hair is now short and punky and black and OH SO VERY CUTE – but I don’t have a recent picture. *L* her hair changes bi-weekly though, so who knows what’ll happen next!**

The End of Week One!

So, Week one is in the books, and while some of the guests are just starting to get their feet wet, and we’ve an unprecedented level of Fail Jailing going on, I think we’re getting our footing and should be a on a roll now!

Despite the relative young age of the cast, they are all eager to play, and have shown themselves to be pretty upstanding and fun – though there are a couple obsessions that make us blink on a regular basis! (Dru, dru, dru! *L*)

So Chris won the right to call himself HOH for week one, and the nominees were Dru and Robert – aka, the invisible man. Not sure what happened to Robert, though, as our youngest houseguest, I wonder if he got grounded from he internets. He was so excited to be chosen, that his lack of activity was shocking – we just hope he’s alright and everything is good on his end of things. But that didn’t stop the houseguests from booting him unanimously, after John won and chose not to use the POV.

— Little hint for those on the block: When someone wins POV and is willing to chat about using it on a nom? TALK TO THEM. It could save your ass in the game. It could backfire, but you never know unless you try. This is ultimately a game about relationships with the other guests, so ya might wanna get to building those, hm?

Goes for everyone really. Chat it up! Never know when that’ll save your ass. —

So – Week one is over, and week two begins! Loads of stuff planned this week, so it’s one not to be missed! Jake has won HOH in a quickfire elimiguest type contest, and no one knows WHAT he’s gonna do in the nominations tonight.

Stay tuned, and join us! It’s gonna be a good week!

Can ya smell what the Mom is Cookin?!

cornedbeef-1Peppermist, upon hitting the door after school: OMG WHAT IS THAT SMELL?
Me, with a snort: That depends – is it good, or bad?
Peppermist, in disbelief: you’re COOKING?
Me, rolling my eyes: Yes. Why is that so hard to believe – and you didn’t answer the question.
Peppermist, rubbing belly: OMG WHEN WILL IT BE DONE SMELLS GOOD OMG!

You might think from the above exchange that I never cook anymore. Miraculously, however, my children still grow and thrive, so I must be doing SOMETHING, right? Granted, I don’t often splurge and grab a $13 corned beef brisket either. (It wasn’t $13 bucks when I bought it though – I got it outa the clearance bin. My mama didn’t raise no fool!) So when the kids hit the door one by one and smelt the oh so deliciously bubbling away in the crockpot rare goodie, I became queen of the universe – if only for a little while.

The Pup, upon FINALLY getting a plate because it was FINALLY done: MOM! This is the kinda meat I LIKE! That I told you about from Aunties! I LOVE THIS STUFF.
Me, again with the rolled eyes: It’s Corn Beef, darlin, and yes, I know. You are mostly Irish, after all.
The Pup: With the lil balls on top!
Me: you mean peppercorns?
Peppermist: she means DELICIOUSNESS.
Me: Put that back – that’s MY plate… eat ya OWN meat, womanchild.
Peppermist, with stolen piece of cb, rolling her eyes. Wonder where she got that from?: mamphnarfomnomnom!

I dunno. Maybe I SHOULD splurge more often… they were awfully nice to me all evening, at least until dinner was done and over with. I was nice and kept the crockpot warm until the boy came home from work too. He declared me a goddess.

They better not get used to it, though. Tonight it’s back to Mac and Cheese and Hot Dogs.
