I mentioned a while ago that she had started band this year, and much to my chagrin chose the clarinet as her instrument of choice. O.M.G. The squeeks, the repitition, the…

Constant practice and hard work by a very determined 10 year old little girl. *proud mommy grin*

She really has worked hard, as evidenced by the fact that when she came home from our vacation, she found out that the band had learned an entire new song while we were gone. Now, most 10 year olds that I know would just shrug and say whatever, I’ll just not play that one then. Not my girl! She gave up her entire lunch hour the day of the concert to learn that song so that she could play it that night with everyone else. That, my friends, is determination!

She gets that from me, of course. Imagine the determination and dedication it took for me to sit through the first band concert of the year and all the squeeks and different keys and tempos and…. oh my. *L* They did well considering that 3 months ago very few of them (like…. 1-5 out of the 45 member band) had ever played any sort of instrument before this. We didn’t giggle…. too much, and never when the kids were looking.

My girl, though, had a very very important job – she was the one called on to play that all important starting tuning note for the whole band! Yeaaaaah baybee!

She also wore her very short skirt papa let her pick out just to piss off daddy. (but he can’t get mad! there’s shorts underneath! ha!)

That was on Monday. Today, we had a concert of a different sort, the boy’s first chior concert. Man – was there a whoooooooooole lotta purple up there! (School colors purple and yellow/gold) Even Mrs. Larson wore a purple suit. *chuckles* MRs. LArson is amazing. She gets the most amazing 150% from a whole lotta students. She teaches choir from gradeschool through jr. high, before turning them over to Mrs. Henderson, another well decorated choir teacher well known in the area.

The boy is still having a bit of coughing problem from being sick, and thus ended up mouthing all of the words (though a few times I could swear I heard him singing too..) but he knew them all and he worked hard to learn them. He even brought a practice tape with him and listened to it on the plane to be sure he had his part down. He’s never been big into singing before, but Mrs. Larson has drawn out a love for singing in the choir that surprised me.

He looked very very sharp in his robes, and stood smack dab in the middle of the back row, and at least looked like he was singing his heart out. *chuckles* They started the concert differently then any I’d seen before, singing acapella from the balcony, which is something very difficult to do due to the accoustics of the auditorium – it’s difficult to hear the right side if your on the left, and vice versa, and the volume must be just right in order to carry to the seats below. They did it extremely well, and the sound was just beautiful. Afterwards they made their way to the stage. There were several solos, duets and even one cello solo. They did all the classics, and even had their one and only bass sing jingle bells. Most of the boys’ voices haven’t changed yet, but this 8th graders voice was hanging right on down there – I’m betting Mrs. Henderson has her eye on him for sure, among some of the others too.

All in all it was a very nice concert, marred only by the boy’s wanting to clock someone for calling him a retard when he was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing. My take is – well, your not one, so don’t let it bother you. Dad’s take of course is that he should have smacked him down. heh. Fortunately the boy remembered that I was sitting in the audience. *chuckles*

So, home again, home again. And now I’m gonna watch the rest of ER and get some work done. Work for Trade, unfortunately, but it’s work. The Asshole and kids damn well better appreciate me. My work will get them a chartered fishing trip this summer.

<strike>Merry Christmas.</strike> Bah Humbug.

Programs and parties and stressed out mommies trying to figure out just where Santa is gonna get some cash for christmas this year. subliminal message Hire Me! / not so subliminal message First there was the girl’s band concert, her very first one.
