I can tell you exactly where I was, and likely every little detail too, but I’ll spare you that this year, and settle for – I was in the last stages of a 2 day labor, and in the early evening giving birth via c-section to a healthy, happy, screaming 7lb 6.5 oz baby boy. He was the cutest, most precious, perfect little thing I had *ever* laid eyes on.[please, pay *no* attention to the really big 90’s style black framed glasses, the black eyes from no sleep, and the remnants of my morphine reaction acround my nose and mouth (morphine makes me ITCH!) – and we’ll just leave the fact that I was still *very* swollen and sore from the surgury outa it too. *L*]

Yes, for those counting, that was 13 years ago. My baby turned thirteen years old this past thursday. OMFG. I’m still having problems coming to grips with it, especially as seemingly overnight he’s blossemed into this teenage creature where just the day before he was still my 12 year old baby.

To start him off on this journey right, there of *course* had to be a party! And party we did. We opted for something new this year, and had the party at the local roller rink. He invited several kids, but only the most important showed up – and the ones that showed up were *his* most important list, not mine. His best friends Steel and Saul were there, as well as Jen.

A girl.
A GIRL!

Who very clearly *likes* Sean. A lot. How do I know? Well – let’s just look at the evidence, shall we?

There’s that cute little baby, posing for a picture, and lo and behold – There she is too! It was very cute, and the boys didn’t even run from her (a sure sign that the feelings are mutual!) and she seemed to be one of their ‘group’ which was cool.

Oh yeah – I promised actual evidence, hm? Well, Steel gave the boy a birthday card with a bikini clad woman on it – here he is oogling it:

Please note the way her arms are crossed defiently as he oogles another woman! *gasp* Then, once the boy reads the card, and the joke is discovered… (on the front it said “This woman wants to rip off all your clothes!” and on the inside, it said “and replace them with some that match!”] only then….

..does she join in the laughter and relax. It was the cutest damn thing I’d *ever* seen. Even if I’m not ready for this stuff. *L* Asking the boy today if he liked her in return, I find out that THIS is the girl he’s been wanting to take to the movies, or ask to the next dance at school! OhHO! and we thought he was still hung up on tina! Apparently, he’s broadening his horizons a bit, and i couldn’t be happer about that – well, expect for the part that I”M NOT READY FOR THIS! and all. heh.

So anyway. Heh. Back to the party. Auntie Ladybug’s cake was a HIT for sure:

And tasted even better then it looked! Presents were opened, skating was done, games were played, and Momma and Auntie were scammed out of lots of money for the arcade. *L* But it was worth it, as everyone had a really good time.

After the party, the boy and his best friend Steel decided that after dinner and picking out the movies they’d watch later, they headed to the Dance that was being held at the Teen Center. My boy. Hanging at the TEEN CENTER. Of course, the reason i allowed it so suddenly is because my cousin works there, and now everyone there knows that he’s related to her, and that if he misbehaves even the slightest that not only will SHE knock him up side the head, but she can guarentee that I will as well. *L* So he’s well chaperoned.

he and I also had the talk today as I drove him back there just a while ago to play some pool – about the “what if’s” because the Teen Center back in my day was *the* place to get drugs. They’ve (supposedly) cleaned it up a lot in the past *cough18cough* years since I occasionally hung out there, but it never hurts to give that extra lecture about it. I even tossed in a quick “and no sex either. you *do* know where the condoms are, though, just in case” message too, which had him shaking his head and saying “MOM! I’m NOT stupid!”

I love my boy. I do. I’m mortified to be the mother of a teen, but all in all? I couldn’t have picked a better teen to mother.

[More pictures in the gallery.]

So, Where were YOU back on March 10th, 1992?
