So, today was the day of Red and Pink and Flowers and Hearts and Sparkly Things and Soft Things and Couples Dressed Up and…<\/p>\n

Blahblahblah.<\/p>\n

I joked with all the men we helped today – each one carrying flowers bought last minute as they belatedly remembered what day it was and scrambled – “Oh,” I’d say, “You bought me flowers! How sweet!” and they’d laugh and shake their head, and wander off.<\/p>\n

Not a one actually gave me flowers though. Not one.<\/p>\n

One guy, just as I was leaving, buying the dog food, and some new earrings for myself, and a diet coke to drink on the way home – I said it to him, and he laughed and agreed he was sweet. I did not get flowers from him either, but as I was joking with the checker that I’d been trying all day and gotten no where, he made a point to come back and touch my arm, and wish me a “Happy Valentine’s Day, anyway, hon.” <\/p>\n

I joke around a lot – the girls complain when they don’t get enough action, and I just smirk and give them “Two words: Five YEARS.” And they always say the same thing (or variations of it): Take Care Of Yourself! Alas, they are young – and miss the point. <\/p>\n

It’s not the lack of sex, not really at all – its the fact that having a partner every once in a while would be nice. Having someone stop and say “Hey, you look nice” would be fantastic. Having someone think hey – that girl, that girl right there? She’s worth taking out for a bite to eat, and some conversation. She’d be fun to hang with. She’d be awesome to buy a flower for, just because, or even for Valentines day.<\/p>\n

It’d be nice to be that girl.
\nIt’d just be nice to be noticed.<\/p>\n
