Dora

Ok. So The pup has decided to take a bit of a break from the Disney Channel. Dammit. I LIKE Stanley and them… but whatever. Fine.

She’s decided she’d rather watch Nick Jr.
More Specifically – Dora the Explorer.

I’ve gotta just say….. the makers of Dora? are on fucking CRACK man. *L* I mean oh my god. Just HOW much repetition do we need to get the point across?

It probably wouldn’t be so bad except it really seems to draw the pup in…
This morning for instance.

so I was curled up on the couch, napping, just dozing off and catching sommore z’s after staying up way to late the night before just to make sure TBF got home from his adventure in one piece and all, and The pup wakes up, turns on the tv, asks me to put on Dora for her, and curls up at my feet. Its all good right? She watches and behaves, and I get to continue to snooze. That’s the way it always worked with Stanley, and Bear, and everyone on the Disney channel…

but OH NO.

The makers of CRACK and DORA have decided it’d be fun to draw the kids out of their nice comfortable silence and PARTICIPATE in the show.

It goes something like this.

Dora “What can we use to show us the way?”
silence…
“I have something to help, what will help us find the way to the Kings Mommy?”

(oh and don’t even get me started on their version of the stories – like the one that leads to them finding the kings mommy… freaking PC crap. What happened to the damn wolf being SCARY and freaky? or a Dragon that roared instead of “turns into a NICE dragon and lets us go by! Oh no, he’s CRYING, we should help him!” GAH. and What kind of king is so scared of the crying dragon that he sends a little girl to go and get his “mommy because I miss her!” Standing there CRYING because he misses his MOMMY… your a king for fucks sake! grow UP already! *ahem*)

pup screams – to assure she’s heard, apparently “THE MAP!”

me -jump snort blink look up “…huh? oh.” settle back down.

Then the map tells the three things to get them there.
And repeats it. over. and over. and over. and over. and over.

Little while later, Dora needs something from her backpack. “Say backpack!” and the pup dutifully – “back-kack!” dora says “LOUDER!” and the pup screams it again, jolting me up from another little miniature snooze….

And then Swiper shows up! the little fox that steals things that they have to have to complete their mission… and “You have to help us! when you see swiper, says “Swiper no swiping!” three times with us and he’ll go away!”
Again. this must be said at the top of ones lungs….. with much pup gusto.

Did I mention they show Dora like 5 times a day? and she KNOWS what time this show comes on and must be sitting on the couch like some addict to get her Dora fix? *chuckles*

There are some good things about it, I suppose. Dora speaks Spanish as well, and now we’ve got the pup who refuses to count correctly in English (she CAN do it, she just doesn’t WANT to) spouting off 1-8 in Spanish, with minimal help. Oh , and during the missions, they catch stars (which leads to the counting in spanish at the end) so you’ve got the pup running around jumping and shouting and catching “estrella!!!” (star) Every once in a while I get a “momma, donde est??” (where is it?) tossed in for flavah, and “arriba!” which they use when they’re going higher on something… jumping, or climbing, or something. Translator says it means ‘arrive’ as they use it, or mas arriba means ‘higher’… which works too I suppose. These are kids 2-5 after all. *L*

And of course, with Nick Jr, we are once again hooked on Blue’s Clues, and Maggie and the Ferocious Beast which I think are just too young for her, but she likes them. *shakes head* I like disney because they are more geared toward the older end of the preschool group, the 4-6 year olds… this nick stuff makes me gag.

And my god. If I have to hear Bob the Builder one more time ask “Can we fix it!” and them stupid trucks answer “Yes We CAN!” I’m gonna hurl!

And not get my nap, either.

Dammit.

I need my sleep! Donde est????
