SYTYCD – Top 12!

Posted by Lessa on July 10, 2008 in Fox, SYTYCD |

We’re one step closer to the top 10 on So You Think You Can Dance, and the couples turned it out again last night, as the best shone and the others… well, they tried. Each couple performed twice again this week, and while there were some definite hits, there were quite a few misses too. Just another night for SYTYCD!

Mia is one of the judges – which means I’m going to be groaning by nights end. Her Choreography is flawless, but her commentary? Ugh. Ugh. UGH.

Check out all the action, plus YouTube Clips of the dances, after the cut!

Chelsie and Mark dance Salsa, and I’m worried she’s going to fall out of her top. Hah. I liked it a lot, but it gets mixed reviews from the judges – that final lift though was AWESOME! And is it just me, or has Nigel turned up the pervy old man comments this year?

Comfort and Thayne’s first dance is hip hop – and Comfort’s thrilled to finally get her own style. Thayne tries not to smile through the whole thing, but he is grinning all over the place. Comfort excels, of course, and Thayne does ok, even if it could have been a bit sharper. Nigel is really harsh though because of their lack of connection – Mary and Mia agree that it was good, but not outstanding.

Jessica and Will do contemporary that is supposed to be about the Garden of Eden – connection between man/woman, etc. I just gotta say MAN it’s HOT up in EDEN! Whew! The music (Silence, from the Unfaithful soundtrack) is beautiful and haunting and I MUST HAVE IT NOW. Jessica and Will are aMAZing, completely together and wow. Just wow. Nigel’s pervy again, but all three judges are equally impressed. Stunning.

Next up – Courtney and Gev and the ChaCha! Nigel must be in heaven as Courtney is wearing next to nothing. It was really entertaining – they are the cutest couple EVER, and it was fun, sassy and even if they missed some technical aspects, that made up for it.

Time for Twitchington to take on Krumping – does Kherington have it in her? Well, she does for the first half of the routine, but you can see where she gets tired. I’m not generally a fan of Krumping, but they impressed me – the judges, not so much. We’ll probably see them in the bottom three.

It’s Katee and Joshua’s turn to bring us to the end of the first half with a Viennese Waltz. Wow. Wow. Wow. I love these two so much! The judges have to stretch to say something bad, Nigel thinks Joshua was too bouncy, and Katee did no wrong, naturally.

Back at the top of the order, it’s Chelsie and Mark with Broadway.Cute cute CUTE! It was a lot of fun, and Mia goes off about Mark’s lack of technique, though everyone was thrilled with the performance as a whole.

Comfort and Thayne take on Contemporary with a Mandy Moore routine and I think they did well, while the judges get snippy as Nigel wishes that a different couple had danced it to show off the choreography the way it should be. Whatev. Mia completely talks down to Comfort about ‘faking’ her technique. Seriously Mia? She’s in the top 12 because she’s FAKED it? Come on… Comfort isn’t my favorite, but I certainly think she’s come a long way, baby.

ooooooooh no. Jessica and Will picked the kiss of death dance, Quickstep. It’s fun, but not exactly a traditional quickstep. Nigel points out that all the other incorporated styles were great, but the quickstep parts, not so much. Mia goes bitch and tells Will he looks like he’s “tired of carrying Jessica” and needs a new partner. Ouch. Will stands up for Jessica, as well he should. Who stole Mia’s cheerios? Cuz, damn.

Courtney and Gev have Jazz, and I looove it! Natch. They’re so adorable, and they’re lost in the jungle and dancing with a map – very entertaining! Nigel thinks there wasn’t enough to it and was just fluff (…huh? Does EVERY dance have to have some deeper meaning?) but Mary and Mia like it. ME TOO.

Almost done – Twitchinton have the Tango next, and it’s supposed to be like Mr and Mrs Smith fighting. Hm. It’s ok, but nothing stunning. Kherinton seems tired. Nigel blasts both of them, saying it wasn’t honest or passionate.

And then. By far. The GREATEST DANCE OF THE NIGHT finished off the show. I *adore* Bollywood – so colorful, energetic, and FUN. And Katee and Joshua knock it right out of the ballpark. FABULOUS. The judges love it too – and not just because it’s Katee and Joshua, who he obviously favors. It’s just THAT good.

So who’s our bottom three and on the way out? Tune in tonight to see!
