BIG NEWS!

Posted by Lessa on October 10, 2006 in family, this-n-that |

For the boy!

First! He made Honor Chior! That’s right, he was one of the students chosen who get to spend all day Monday and Tuesday with an out of state conductor, singing some seriously hard, fabulous songs with the other schools in our borough!

And – secondly, it’s the reason for that little donate button that is now atop my sidebar on the main page. We found out this evening that he does indeed qualify for the High School Choir trip to Europe over spring break! YAY! She was able to arrange things to where all the kids who wished to go, could, which opened up a seat for The Boy.

The bad news is – it’s MUCHO EXPENSIVE to send him. They do a couple big fundraisers, but the money is given as a ‘refund’ during the trip. Most kids use it for spending money. heh. Anyway, it’s very expensive, and as you all know, I’m on a very limited budget. So – while I hate to ask/beg/plead for any money for myself, I have absolutely no shame in begging for help for my kids.

This trip is a once in a lifetime event. My sister got to go with the choir way back in 92 when TheBoy was only a week or so old, and she had a wonderful time. She still remembers so many details and it’s a shining event of her high school choir years. I spent two summers (86 and 88) in Europe working on Mission Trips. I still talk about it – it’s something that doesn’t happen very often, especially for kids around here.

I want my son to have this opportunity, but $3400 is spendy. Very spendy. In fact, it’s about 2 months income for me. I used a good portion of our recent Ak Perm Fund Dividends to write a check for $1550 for the downpayment today.

So, I ask you, all you angels of the internet, if you would help my son achieve his desire. He vows to keep his grades up, and take many pictures and tell many stories of his trip and send postcards to each and every person who donates and gives us a snail mail address so that we can.

I vow to love you forever.

Every little bit helps – be it $5 or $50. I wanted to set up a chipin account, but it seems to be down for a while as they relaunch the site. As soon as it is up, I will definitely get that in the works as well. For now, I set up a new paypal account with my other email address (diTerces [at] gmail [dot] com). This paypal account is strictly for his trip, and all money donated will go to that end. I will keep a running total on this page, and hopefully we can send my boy to France and Spain with his choir.

I thank you in advance for anything you can do to help – be it donate, or helping me spread the word to others so they can donate. I’ve seen you angels do amazing things, and I hope with all my heart that you will open your hearts to my son and help him achieve his dream.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • Heather says:

I am here via Moosie’s site. I know what it’s like to try and scrape together money you don’t have to pay for something special like this. My son, while in high school, had the unique opportunity to play baseball in the Junior Olympics.

It’s not much, but I know that every little bit helps.

Both Madrid and Paris are very impressive, I think it will make a very big impact both seeing and singing in those fantastic locations. Versaille is again something else (although tell him to watch where he walks, the dog owners of Versaille are not tooo good at clearing up!!)
So what was wrong with singing in the UK huh ……?
Have made a modest donation, hope you reach your target, sorry its not more

  • Lessa says:

    Thank you both so much!

And I remember walking the streets in Ireland and we even made a song about the um. copious amounts of um. doggy messes on the sidewalks (Dog…dog….DOOO I just stepped in dog DOOOOO! dog dog DOOOO and I think its brand NEEEW!)

And the choir does an overseas trip every two years. They’ve gone to the UK – in fact, that’s where my sister went. They’ve also done Greece and China and various other places too.

I can’t thank ya’ll enough for helping. I know it’ll be a trip he remembers for a lifetime! (And oh! I am SO JEALOUS. How I loved Paris… And Ireland. And London. And Switzerland.

    Sorry nana. *g*)

I will help… But I want him to work for it…. maybe some more baby sitting… and those grades had better be UP….But I am (as Always) here for you….. you were only a week old when I went… I came back and the first thing I did was get you out your car seat… You changed so much in that short 10 days I was gone. Will get something to you soon. MUAH!… Honors… I cant waite. I am so proud of you…… :dragonfly:

  • AkMotleyGal says:

It not much but I hope it helps some. Tell him to have a grand time- I wish I would have gotten the chance to do something like this when I was in school (but then I can’t carry a tune in a bucket so choir was out of the question….)

  • […] Another honor is a choir trip next spring to Europe. Yes, I said Europe. (Both of my daughters have gone to Europe and now a grandson – and I have yet to see the shores across the pond.) We are all excited that he is going to get this chance.  […]
