blah.

Many people have mentioned that my site has been laggy and slow to load – and not just Auntie Ladybug, who has dialup. heh. Then, this morning, apparently my server went down for several hours as well. Now, I’ve been with these guys for goin on 4? years now, and it kills me to have to upgrade, but looks like I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and do it. I’m tired of my email email spam filter not working (thus necessitating the switch to gmail) and it going down at least once a day, and the laggy slow pain in the ass bits.

So I’m looking for a new server. Dreamhost has a fanTAStic looking deal right now, but it’s got that ‘too good to be true’ feeling to it. So! Who do you host with? Do ya like it? Why? Why not? Who’ve you heard good things about? who’ve you heard bad things about? I’m looking to switch over by october at the absolute latest (it’s a money thing. heh.). So – opinions? Common – ya know ya got em! *g*

Blogher! did you go? did ya see? what? blogher! WTF is BLOGHER?

Posted by Lessa on August 6, 2006 in this-n-that |

So, everyone in the known blogging world either was at blogher, heard of blogher, is sick of hearing about blogher, or doesn’t know what the hell I’m talkin about…

Yes, that covers EVERY ONE of my 3 loyal readers! hahah!

So anyway, why do I bring it up as I wasn’t there? I dunno. I was just thinking last night about the pros n cons of the various blogher experiences I’ve been reading in some of my faves. Seems like MOST had a good time, thuogh it also seems as if some are disappointed. Not all that unexpected when one gets together 700+ women in one room, surely.

Now, if I had been there, I’d have been the quiet wallfower in the back, wanting to join but just not popular enough (Hi! 3 readers!) to feel I warrented barging into groups, even those I adore reading on a daily basis. I’d have been a little starstruck to meet Y and Mir and Dooce and Amalah and Schnozz and Moose In the Kitchen and Rockstar Mommy and and and and and… in person, though it kinda makes me also think about why I would feel that way. Is it because they’re funnier then me and thinner and OH SO PRETTY and write better and have more to talk about then me with my posts of family and many pictures and antedotes that may be amusing only to me? And if THATS the case, why am I doing this anyway – because I hate popularity contests and the like anyway though I still wanna be popular. Kinda.

Ok – this is CLEARLY not making any sense whatsoever. *L* It’s not gonna get any better, EITHER. *g*

Anyway – what I was REALLY thinking about was this term “Mommyblogger” and what a bad rap it seems to have, so much so that there was something said/done/broughtup/whatever at blogher. Now, me, I think “blog” sounds like something icky that should be done in the privacy of one’s own home, and never talked about. Course, maybe that’s how it SHOULD be, but we are all exibitionists else we wouldn’t do this at all, right? Right. So why on earth do Mommyblogs have such a bad rap? I would likely be called just that, if I were into lables and enough people stopped by (Hi! 3 loyal readers!) to indeed lable me, since I talk about *gasp* my kids and their antics and my everyday life which, as a mom, involves my *gasp* kids!

So why the bad rap, all? I love to read other ‘mommyblogs’ because it reminds me that hey, my kids are animals, but they aren’t all THAT bad, and that mom over there feels the same way I do, and so on and so forth. And sometimes I even get to feel a little bit like “ha! I’d NEVER do that!” which is usually about .23 seconds before I do EXACTLY that, and then I’m scrambling to look and see if we handled it the same way. Because women like to talk about stuff like that. It’s how we tick. Sure I’m not the most girly girl around, but I’m still female and a mom and like attracts like, often enough, and who really wants to read about guys having farting contests? Really? I want to read real accounts of real women that make me laugh. I love to laugh! (did anyone else hear Mary Poppins’ Uncle Jock, there? I am *such* a mom!) I also love those that make me think, cry, ponder, giggle, and snort diet coke out my nose.

So – anyway. To all you mommybloggers – I salute you. To people who don’t like it – see that little x up there? Clickit. I love my 3 loyal readers (hi!) and if ya don’t like me, it really doesn’t matter – it’s no skin off my nose at all.

Bah. Polularity contests. Stupid.
(Now read me! and send people to read me! LOVE ME DAMMIT!)
(Did you comment? HUH? how do I know you’re here without COMMENTS?)
(Ahem. *grin*)

So would I be going to blogher sometime in the future? Bah. I dunno. I might if KristyK went, cuz I love her! And if I do, be sure to stop by the fat Alaskan lady in the back, melting in the heat, camera in hand, shyly drinking a lot and peoplewatching. I promise not to fawn over you TOO much. However, actual genuflecting may occur.

Anyway. This made no sense and totally rambles all over the place. So. Um. Carry on! Nothing to see here!

So this is what it looks like…

..What, you may ask? And you may, for I’ll let you, else why would I have any other reason to go on with this post? (Other then cuz I wanna, of course.) Well, this! This is what twelve looks like.

12.

HAHAHAH! Ok, so really, today? THIS is what TWELVE looks like:

TWELVE!

Yes, today, my baby girl, my sweet thing, my darlin Mairiah Kaye turns 12 years old.

(Yes, she was named for the song “and they called the wind Mariah” and yes, there’s an extra letter in her name, and yes there’s a story behind it. Kevin insisted his first girl would be Mariah, and I could name all the rest. I wanted Mairi Kate. So we compromised with adding the I, and switching Kate (too harsh for his baby girl) to Kaye. And we called her Mairi for short. Tada.

Hey, I didn’t say it was a GOOD story. Just a story!)

Technically not until 6:30 or so, but still. 12 years ago today, I was going through SEVERAL hours of EXCRUCIATING back labor, because my darling baby girl decided she was gonna just stay RIGHT where she was, because she was TOTALLY happy with that and wasn’t about to come out anytime soon. Yeah. Heh. That went over well. NOT. She was a week overdue, I was pregnant in the HOTTEST SUMMER EVER in a year my son – then 2 – discovered his joy of baseball and we spent every bloody night at the oilers collegiate team ball field, and I was HUGE and UNCOMFORTABLE and she was SO STUBBORN…

When I decided I’d had ENOUGH – being a week late and BIG as a HOUSE – they induced me, and I tried to go natural again, and again it did not work. We discovered why, of course – my little baby girl was born at 9 pounds 10 ounces, practically a TODDLER! Oh but it was love at first sight, and to this day my little girly girl never fails to make me smile and laugh.

My Miss Thang is beautiful, talented, funny, sweet, and special in oh so many ways I couldn’t ever fully describe her. Instead, I’ll just say this:
Happy birthday, baby girl, I love you.

Part one of the party down – dinner, cake and gifts at McD’s. 3 extra’s staying the night, movies being watched, snacks being scarfed, all in prep for tomorrow’s swimming to close out the festivities. Whew am _I_ tired. But hey – awesome cake Auntie Ladybug! Below – before and after being grabbed by teens, pre-teens, and children of all ages, as well as a link to the flikr set if ya wanna peek at more.
