Da Kenai Bear
My entry for this weeks Photo Scavenger hunt.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge #1, Week 4 of 13
Week beginning 1.21.06 Photos Due by 1.27.06 BONUS POINTS AVAILABLE: 1 pt. if the work of art is sculpture.
This bear has been in front of the kenai chamber of commerce ever since I can remember. He’s watched over us a good long time – sometimes with a rudolf nose for christmas, sometimes warm, sometimes snow covered like right now.
And HOW MUCH do I love this game – it was -10 degrees outside when I took this picture!

Dear Girl Child Of Mine,
Uh. don’t mind me, child. Climb right over me – the DRIVER of the CAR – to get your photohunt picture. Really. I don’t mind.
Snort.
WARM dammit
it’s been so bloody cold I broke down and spent 13 bucks to get my toes WARM dammit! Aren’t they just the HEIGHT of fashion? *Grin*
I just passed this picture on to my pal L in WV (not to be confused with ME L) and she said that on the news tonight was the following statement:
“i heard the news tonight, they were all, we are supposed to get an arctic air mass from canada, but alaska is hogging it all!” And to that, I can only say… “WE DON’T WANT IT NO MORE! TAKE IT BACK!!!!”
HArumph!
Well, they aren’t gonna print my letter to the editor since I’m related to the columnist – so – I’ma post my letter HERE. Maybe someone will pick up the vibe and write in or something – it’s too good not to be seen anyway! *g*

There have been a few letters criticizing the new Neighbors layout and format since the change, and I thought it is important to make sure that the columnists know that they are appreciated for all the work they put in as well. While many of the comments involve “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, one comment that stood out was the fact that if the reader wanted to interview someone, she could knock on their door and ask. To that reader and others like them, I can only ask one thing. You could, but would you?
The insights into the names that we hear about town on a more fully explored basis can only enhance that good hometown feeling. How many of you knew that we have a potential eventual Olympic ice skater in our midst? Right now she’s headed toward the Peninsula Games, and then the Winter Games after that. In four years we could see her at the Olympics. Did you know that? I didn’t, until a Neighbors columnist took the time to find out.
And how about the fact that there are still people out there willing to apprentice our young folk in such tasks as forging metal into swords and blades for decorative as well as functional uses? Did YOU know that you can tell when its time to pound the iron with a magnet?
Sure, each and every one of us could trudge through the cold to bang on doors and ask these questions and get to know our neighbors – but those of us that would are few and far between. Kudo’s to the neighbors columnists who go out in the cold so that when I see Jessica, or Zeke, (or Brock or Billie or Dan or…) I can say “hey, aren’t you…” and more easily open a conversation with the connection offered in the Neighbors Column each week. I also appreciate the addition to the online journal style entries, so that I have access to them as I take my paper online, not in hand.
And for those that bemoan the loss of the ‘about town’ section: it’s STILL THERE. As with the previous incarnation of the neighbors, that section is dependent on YOU the readers to provide the information so that it gets included. Again, that involves stepping out of your comfort zone, tossing an email or phone call to your columnist, and letting them in on your life too.
So yeah, maybe you could all do what they do…. but would you?

Proud Daughter of your Soldotna Neighbor Columnist.–
So there – someone spread the vibes so people who are all DISSING the hard working columnists at peninsulaclarion.com will be outnumbered by those ENCOURAGING them!
Feelin me wheaties, i is!
Alrighty. So. As of today I have:
- Gotten together an application packet for a burough school district webmaster job. We’re talking benes, 17 bucks an hour starting, 8 hours a day and 122 days a year (that’s the school year, all school vacations off, i believe). While I love to sit on my ass at home, I had to try, right? right.
- Actually TURNED THE APPLICATION PACKET IN! As of today at 4:15 pm, even.
- Wrote a web design proposal for a guy who DESPARATELY needs me. No, he didn’t request it, and no he doesn’t know it’s coming. Heh. Nothing says balls like an out of the blue cold proposal, hm?
- Actually MAILED IT OFF! as of first thing this morning even.
- Wrote a Letter to the Editor to tell people who’re saying bitchy things bout my mom and the other columnists to STOPPIT or Face the Wrath of Lessa! Course, I wrote it much nicer and with many more words.
- Actually EMAILED IT OFF! this afternoon even. THEN I told mom. *L*
- Wrote a proposal for a BIG design job with the local Little League for individual team posters. Could be VERY lucrative. Will be a pain in the ass. But well, it’ll be worth it.
- Well, that one won’t be decided on or even seen till the next board meeting. But it’s ready. *g*
- And last but not least! I’ve just finished a logo for Kristyk‘s contest. Inspiration has been a fleeting thing around here for me lately, so it felt good to just lose myself in photoshop for a while, first with nana moosie a few days ago, and now for Kristy. Thanks gals, for helping me find a little bit of my mojo!
SO yeah. I dunno. I’m feeling my oats. Or wheaties. or something. *L* Even went to the store and got a couple new tops just in case I need to go to an interview with the school district. Gonna call Miss A and see if she can’t get me in for a color job too. We’ll foster this “i can walk on water [even if i need you as a stepping stone]” feeling for a while. Heh. It’s kinda… interesting. *heh*
