I…. I…. I…. I….

Posted by Lessa on February 2, 2005 in this-n-that |

I don’t know what to say. I don’t. it’s a SERIOUS vote of confidence, a TOTAL ego kick, and completely shocking. completely.

i joined a writers / thinkers / artists board the other day. Been having quite a bit o’fun. Was told by the owner to submit an exerpt of AbO so that they could help me with any bits that might need it, and at least I’d get some fresh blood’s opinion on it all. So I finally relented and did so.

And here are parts of todays’ conversation… whereupon he actually compared me to one of my favorite authors. Me! compared to Terry Goodkind! The one who’s signed book I was salivating over not too long ago!

Mother of the year!

Posted by Lessa on February 1, 2005 in this-n-that |

Forget Dooce and SJ and Y too! – I’ll be taking that Mother of the Year award right about now, thank ya very much.

Why? Why you say? That’s easy. The rules are – always make sure your child brushes her teeth before bed. Never let her go to sleep with anything in her mouth – especially anything sugary or risk cavities of doom or worse, choking, yup.

I give you – exhibit A.

Mommy-speak

Posted by Lessa on January 29, 2005 in this-n-that |

Man. So – I went to read the NYTimes article about parenting and blogs that featured some of the more well known mommys out there such as Dooce. It was something of a ‘holier then thou’ article – and not on the part of the bloggers. No, it was someone else that was all “paying so much attention to every little thing your child does is suffocating” and worried about what the kids will think when they grow up.

That’s easy – they’ll think “FINALLY! now I can have kids and DO THE SAME TO THEM! Revenge! Revenge is mine!”

Me subconscious mind….

Posted by Lessa on January 29, 2005 in this-n-that |

Innnnnnnteresting.

An online inkblot test. Always wanted to take one of these *L* found the link on a forum I frequent…. have to register to take the test, but it was… interesting.

Lessa, your subconscious mind is driven most by Self-protection

Whether you know it or not, your unconscious mind is defending your internal emotional experiences. It acts like an emotional dam that helps you keep things in check. One reason for this could be that you have a deeply-rooted fear of being flooded by emotions. In response, your unconscious acts in the opposite manner, by protecting you from unpredictable, emotional tidal waves.

While this tendency might be useful in some circumstances, it may also at times make your emotions hard to articulate or grasp. And that can lead to some frustration.

Since you tend to appear level-headed to others, they feel they can count on you for sound opinions and advice. Another benefit of your unconscious drive is that it allows you to remain calm in the toughest of situations. This can be a real benefit for you during business negotiations or personal arguments because you’re not apt to say damaging things that you’ll have to apologize for later.

The only hazard with this drive towards self-protection, is you might filter out good emotions as well as the bad. That can leave you feeling like something is missing, something you can’t quite place.

But ultimately, your unconscious is wise and will know if there is a time in the future where it would be beneficial to be different.

Though your unconscious mind is driven most strongly by Self-protection, there is much more to who you are at your core.

Man. Ever since i’ve gotten my Amazon Gift Certificate for using Jittery over there in the glaringly white box – I’ve been aaaaagonizing over what to get! I mean! the choices! Should I go for books? should I go for girly things? Should I just start randomly clicking? I could use a new organizer/wallet, there’s half a million things I’d love to read, there’s 2.5 million things i *should* read – how best to spend my valuable certificate? tell me! how!

I parused my wish list, I parused catagories, I went through and just randomly clicked, unclicked, sampled, and just. oh! the possibilities! *L*

So today I *finally* made my order, and made sure I qualified for free shopping so I could tuck another book or two in there [shipping costs to Alaska are HORRIBLE! I’ll wait an extra week for it to get here rather then spend half my certificate on shipping…) I changed, I rearranged, i finally decided *grin*

So – sometime next week, or the week after [again, AK shipping. heh. see the saga of my signed Terry Goodkind – that was IN STATE shipping!] I shall be the proud owner of:

2005 Writers Market (Writer’s Market) – when asking the Famous Author Catie Murphy [who happens to be a high school friend, eagerly awaiting the first of several published works to hit the shelves!] for how to get started tips, she said in no uncertain terms – GET THIS and Read it – it will help you tremendously! So I did. First even!

On Writing Stephen King – I heart Steven King! I’ve wanted this since it came out years ago, but never had the fundage. So, since I had the opportunity, I went for the paperback [read: cheaper] version – yay!

Hearts In Atlantis Stephen King. From my wish list – because, as I mentioned, I heart Steven King! It’s been AGES since I’ve gotten a new King story to devour. So direct from the wish list, here we go. *g*

Undead and Unwed (Berkley Sensation) Mary Janice Davidson – this, well, i had 6 bucks left as long as I kept to the free shipping selections and so on a whim I looked up Vampires – and found this. *chuckles* i read the first couple pages in the “see inside” way, and well, it’s light, frivolous, fun! Just like me! [well, I’m not so light. *L*] So on the list it went.

Total? I spent all but 44 cents of my certificate. Thanks Jittery! I heart YOU too!

PS. I’ll *really* heart jittery if I manage to win one of those mini ipods they’re giving away too. *hee!*
