Seems Our Neighborhood Brie wants a war.

As truthfully, she holds the cards, there’s one thing she can’t dictate. So, I’m now taking volunteers to help scrape and paint my house. I’m thinking a nice day glow florescent orange with purple trim.

Brie, you should careful what you wish for.

Bye-bye Johnson and Oakleaf!

Posted by Lessa on June 8, 2008 in Can You Duet, CMT |

This week on Can You Duet! we went from five duos down to the final four.

My adored country rockers had to wait till the end of the show to see if they made it as the harmonies were a little off, despite Caitlin and Will rocking the stage like always. Will even ditched his trademark do rag to hold back his hair and looked mighty fine up there on stage.

Joey and Rory, Naomi’s darlings, had them all in the palm of their hand – making me wonder why they just don’t stop kissing their ass and give them the prize already.

I’m all for authentic old time sound, but come on, it’s 2008! Gimme that Country Rocker Spirit!

The Cappolas finally broke through the wall with Naomi after commenting backstage that it’d be easy to like her if she didn’t hate them so much. Ha! Ms. Judd finally felt some connection and openness from the pair and praised them for it, as did Amy. They still had to wait though, as they only got two of the three judges to commit to their moving on.

Brownell and Richie also did well, and were rewarded with another week to compete, as they grow more and more confident on stage and with their presence, and as such, we say goodbye to Johnson and Oakleaf who will have to come to terms with their fifth place finish. They were a duo put together by the judges during auditions, but they couldn’t quite pull it together enough to win in the end, though the judges did encourage them to keep practicing, stay together and keep trying, that they’d do well eventually. Just not now. Awww.

So it’s down to the final four – Caitlin and Will, Joey and Rory, The Capollas, and Brownell and Richie. You all know who I’m pulling for, but who do YOU like?

Step it up and Dance – Winner!

Posted by Lessa on June 6, 2008 in Bravo, Step it up and Dance with Comments closed |

Finally, last night was the night the dancers got to show us their individual style and choreographing skills by dancing their solos – but first… they had to throw in another challenge for them, a group number Sex and the City style. Moochi owned the stage and the boys were backup dancers and it showed, netting Moochi a spot in an upcoming music video with her win. Nice!

Miguel strained his ankle during practice, and I winced for him when it happened. He decided to power through it though, and dance anyway. His solo was classic Miguel, and well, to be honest I wasn’t entirely impressed. Moochi was stunningly beautiful and powerful through her solo – that woman is dynamite in a tiny package for sure! Nick was just pure fun on stage! He definitely has Broadway potential and he was a joy to watch.

Then there’s Cody. Is ANYONE surprised by the final verdict? They beat him up so much during the show – be more emotional, don’t be cold, you’re a snob, give me more, more, more, more – that it was destined for him to pull out the win. His solo was beautiful, and warm and emotional, but I knew he had it in the bag before he even danced. There was just no other way for it to go.

SYTYCD – Top Twenty!

Posted by Lessa on June 6, 2008 in Fox, SYTYCD with Comments closed |

Last night was Vegas Week for So you think you can Dance, and they pushed the hopeful contestants harder then ever before. There were tears, dramatic injuries, more tears, a few screams, and the all important “Mess with the top 20 by making them think they didn’t make it before telling them they did” breakdowns.

So the question is – did your favorite from the auditions make it? Were you surprised by any that did/didn’t end up in the top twenty? Do you agree with the girl who got cut because she couldn’t shut up and kept talking until she talked her way right out of a spot in the next stage? Dish, my darlings!

In the meantime – here’s our Top Twenty in a picture that’s relatively horrible because we can’t see any of them as they blend into the backdrop. Heh: Pictured top row L-R: Twitch, William, Jessica, Kourtni L., Joshua, Jamie and Courtney G. Second row L-R: Kherington, Rayven, Chelsea T., Chris, Katee, Thayne, Comfort, Susie, Marquis, Chelsie H. and Mark. Bottom row L-R: Matt and Gev.

Think Pink! It's the search for (the next) Elle Woods!

Posted by Lessa on June 5, 2008 in Legally Blonde, MTV with Comments closed |

Remember that search for cheesy goodness on the reality circuit that my daughters and I can giggle helplessly too? Well, MTV steps up to the plate with Legally Blonde the Musicial – Search for Elle Woods! Hosted by Haylie Duff, who’s promised to mentor (at least one of) the girls to their first starring role on Broadway, there is more pink then I thought humanly possible on the audition stage.

Last night was the premiere and we went from 50 hopefuls all the way down to ten while they danced and sang their little pink hearts out and discovered you need more of that extra “pink girl spirit” than ever before if you want to make the cut! They dance, and dance, and dance while director Jerry Mitchell is ruthless in his cutting them down to fifteen. Those 15 then hit more dance class, then are taught one of the hardest songs in the show by Seth Rudetsky who claims the last note lasts twice as long as forever – and listening to some of the performances later, he’s right! Oy.

The girls are broken up into smaller groups for the dancing before the judges, Bernie Telsey, a casting director, Heather Hach, one of the writers and Paul Canaan, who’s currently in Legally Blonde. Color them not really impressed, except by one girls guts to wear legwarmers with heels. Sexay. They sing next, some hoping that the singing will make up for their crappy dancing, and get individual reviews – some good, one too sexy, and other’s cracking as badly as their voices on the last note.

They cut them down to the final 10 who will continue working with Haylie and the crew, all in hopes of donning that infamous Pink on stage before they’re whisked away in a limo to see meet Laura Bell Bundy – the Elle Woods at the Palace Theatre. They wish them the best of luck and tell them “Stay Pink! Stay Positive! Big Snaps!”

It doesn’t get campier then that – though I may have to have my daughter write the reviews for this one, because man. That’s a LOT of pink…
